The Best Supper (Act II) is the second chapter of Hamburger Community’s four-act project exploring speculative worldbuilding through participatory performance. Developed through ongoing research into storytelling as a shared methodology, the series reflects on themes of power, social structures, artisthood as a socio-economic condition, conflict, and future-making.

Framed as an interactive dinner, The Best Supper proposes a fictional new world order introduced through ritualised hospitality. Through sensory staging, performative regulations, and reinterpreted culinary traditions, the work examines how authority is constructed and internalised within social settings. The dinner format becomes a site to explore obedience, collective behaviour, and the politics embedded in everyday rituals such as eating together.

Participants enter a structured environment where familiar norms are suspended and replaced by new rules that unfold throughout the evening. Dominant smells, scripted instructions, and carefully staged atmospheres heighten awareness of the body’s responses to power and control, while humour and exaggeration expose the mechanisms through which systems of authority operate.

As part of the broader four-act framework, The Best Supper contributes to an evolving narrative that invites audiences to engage with possible futures through embodied experience. Each act functions as a speculative scenario, proposing time as a multi-directional field shaped by memory, imagination, and collective action rather than a linear progression.
