This space you are entering is an inner landscape. A womb turned outward, where the body breaks open. Inside, it sheds, skin becomes earth, veins branch out like roots, and hair tangles with moss. The air is heavy, damp and scented with exhalations. A slow drip echoes in the background: the sound of water, of milk, of time.
Foreign objects merge with flesh; what once belonged becomes estranged, and what was cast off returns as growth. Ritual becomes language: braiding, humming, touching. This is not a polished body. This is a raw, feral body: leaking, sprouting, refusing containment. It hums low and steady, with moans and whispers older than words.
Rejecting patriarchal norms still projected on women today, this room turns to female body inside out. Showing her unfiltered, as a living organism that is born, gives birth, ages and dies. Abstracted and projected into a cave-like garden, she reveals symbols and rituals that women have used throughout the ages to form bonds with one another, all over the world.
The installation is a collaboration between Alicia Kemp, Tirza Mafi, Renske de Jong and Gamze Öztürk. Four artists who share a fascination with the body as more than a biological entity. A living archive, a site of memory and transformation. through textile, soil, hair, latex, paint and sound, they create an environment that resists boundaries. Throughout a year of sleepovers, studio visits and sharing words and visions, their practices have grown towards each other. The exchange of media, symbols. and stories have formed works that are blending into one another.
